In this particular series of sepia-toned or black & white digital prints, Emquies seeks out, discovers, and manipulates the strange artful bending of nature's structure. His images of seashells, insects, and exotic flowers, that he has been documenting for 10 years, are more than just “still life”... they are dedicated archeological explorations. He explains, “Within these gifts from nature, I started seeing worlds of shapes, symmetry, interconnectedness, numbers, fractals, and explosions strange forgotten worlds where beauty persists even within what is commonly considered ugly or repulsive.” As a result, his perception of the natural world stands vulnerably astute - caught between the secretive, fictional, and raw majesty of biology.
